What Viking makes
Viking’s US home-appliance range is premium, professional-grade and American-made, organised here into eleven categories across the kitchen, the laundry-room-adjacent built-ins and the outdoor patio. Viking Range, LLC was founded by Fred Carl Jr. and shipped its first professional-style home range in January 1987 from Greenwood, Mississippi; it has been a division of The Middleby Corporation since the end of 2012. You can browse every category from the links below or identify a specific unit in the model library.
The cooking appliances
Viking cooking is the heart of the brand. The ranges are freestanding units that include an oven (VGR/VGIC gas, VDR/VDSC dual-fuel, VIR induction, RV 3 Series, TV Tuscany), built around Elevation Burners up to 23,000 BTU or TruPowerPlus sealed burners up to 18,500 BTU, the Gourmet-Glo infrared broiler, TruConvec and Vari-Speed Dual Flow convection, VariSimmer and SureSpark ignition. The cooktops cover gas drop-ins (VGSU), MagneQuick induction (VICU) and QuickCook electric radiant (VECU), and also fold in the gas rangetops (VGRT/VRT) that are a cooktop only with no oven. The electric ovens (VSOE/VDOE single and double, VESO, VSOF/VDOF French-door) run ProFlow convection, TruGlide racks and an infrared broiler.
The refrigeration appliances
Viking refrigeration is mostly built-in. The refrigerators include 5 Series Professional stainless side-by-side (VCSB), bottom-freezer (VCBB), all-refrigerator (VCRB) and French-door (VCFF) columns, plus 7 Series fully-integrated panel-ready models with BlueZone Fresh Preservation. The all-freezers are dedicated columns (VCFB stainless, FDFB panel-ready, FFI 7 Series integrated), and the wine cellars are the VWUI undercounter, VUWC Wine Center and VCWB full-height built-in units. The defining technologies are ProChill Temperature Management with a DC Overdrive compressor, Plasmacluster ion purification, Spillproof Plus shelves and, on the wine cellars, Dynamic Cooling and a Vibration Neutralization System.
Dishwashers, microwaves and ice machines
The kitchen built-ins are completed by Viking’s dishwashers (24-inch FDWU panel-ready and VDWU stainless, 3/5/7 Series, down to 45 dBA), which report faults through Pots/Pans and Normal Wash indicator-light blink patterns rather than a numeric display. The microwaves are over-range convection hood units (VMOR) and 24-inch DrawerMicro drawers (VMOD / VMODC), and they show word prompts rather than diagnostic codes. The undercounter ice machines produce clear ice and come in 5 Series indoor (FIUI / VBFIC) and Professional outdoor-rated (FGIM gravity-drain, FPIM drain-pump) forms.
Outdoor grills and ventilation
On the patio, Viking grills come as older stainless-burner models (VGBQ built-in and freestanding, VGIQ Ultra-Premium with the TruSear infrared burner) and newer cast-brass models (VQGI built-in ProSear, VQGFS freestanding cart), with a Gourmet-Glo infrared rotisserie and ceramic radiant briquettes. Above the cooktop, Viking range hoods are wall canopies (VWH, 300–460 CFM) and built-in custom ventilators and liners (VBCV, with halogen or LED lighting and heat lamps), all using dishwasher-safe baffle filters and a heat-sensor auto-on. Both are mechanical appliances diagnosed by symptom.
Model lines and finishes
Beyond the category, Viking groups its appliances into Professional series that shape both the look and the parts a repair involves. The Professional 7 Series is the top tier (Elevation burners, French-door ovens, BlueZone integrated refrigeration); the Professional 5 Series is the core pro-style line (sealed and open gas, dual-fuel, TruPowerPlus, built-in stainless refrigeration); the Professional 3 Series is the 30-inch entry pro-style line with the RV prefix; the Tuscany Series is large-format designer cooking up to 66 inches with the TV prefix; and the Designer Series covers panel-ready, custom-panel built-ins. The model number tells a technician the series, size and configuration, which is why the complete number matters more than the family prefix alone.
The technology that defines Viking
Across every category the common thread is restaurant-derived power paired with American-made build quality. Elevation and TruPowerPlus burners, the Gourmet-Glo broiler, SureSpark ignition, ProChill and BlueZone refrigeration and Dynamic Cooling define both the experience and the parts a repair involves. That is why identifying the appliance first — through its model number — speeds up every visit.
