Viking range model families
Viking ranges are freestanding units that include an oven, and they read by fuel and series — the first step in any Viking range repair. The 7 Series (Elevation burners to 23,000 BTU) includes VGR74828BSS and VGR74826GSS (48-inch gas), VDR74826GSS and VDR74828B (48-inch dual-fuel) and VGR7362 / VDR7362 (36-inch). The 5 Series core includes VGIC5362 (36-inch open-burner gas bestseller), VGIC5302 (30-inch), VDR5366B and VDR5304BSS (dual-fuel), VDSC530/536/548/560 (dual-fuel sealed self-clean) and VIR53024BSS (30-inch induction). The 3 Series uses the RV prefix (RVGR33025BSS gas, RVDR33025BSS dual-fuel, RVER3305BSS electric) and Tuscany uses TV (TVDR4816B 48-inch dual-fuel, TVDR6606IGB 66-inch).
What the technology means for service
A Viking range pairs Elevation Burners up to 23,000 BTU or TruPowerPlus sealed burners up to 18,500 BTU with VariSimmer, SureSpark ignition, the Gourmet-Glo infrared broiler and TruConvec or Vari-Speed Dual Flow convection in the oven. A gas range uses a mechanical thermostat with no oven codes; a dual-fuel range pairs gas burners with an electric EOC oven that shows F-codes; an induction range adds MagneQuick elements and Rapid Ready Preheat. Identifying the fuel and series tells a technician which igniters, valves, elements and oven control a repair involves.
Reading the model and where to find it
The rating plate is usually behind the kick panel or storage drawer at the base, or along the oven door frame. Record the full model string before booking so the correct igniter, valve, element, RTD sensor or control board is matched to your range. The prefix tells the fuel: VGR gas sealed, VGIC gas open-burner, VDR dual-fuel, VDSC dual-fuel sealed self-clean, VIR induction.
Gas, dual-fuel and induction
The fuel decides both how a range cooks and how it is serviced. An all-gas VGR or VGIC gives an instant visible flame top and bottom with no oven codes; a dual-fuel VDR or VDSC pairs gas burners with an electric oven for the most even baking and adds the EOC F-code chart; and an induction VIR heats cookware directly for the fastest surface. The burners are diagnosed as symptoms while an electric oven uses service codes, so telling a technician the fuel and giving the full model number ensures the right parts arrive.
